The Zimwi stalks the table with the hunched, predatory menace of a creature from Swahili nightmare — its massive hyena-like bulk, elongated limbs, and hollow, famine-bright eyes mark it instantly as something older and hungrier than an ordinary beast. This is a monster that does not simply attack; it lingers at the edge of the firelight, circling, waiting for fear to do half its work. Drop it on the battlemat and your players will feel the temperature drop before initiative is even rolled.
This is a Large creature, supplied on a 50mm round base — occupying a 2×2 square footprint on a standard grid, it dominates the space around it and forces careful positioning from every PC at the table. Scaled to 28mm heroic scale and fully compatible with Dungeons & Dragons 5e, Pathfinder 1e & 2e, and all major tabletop RPG systems.
What you receive
One professionally produced resin miniature, cleaned and ready for basing and painting. The Zimwi sculpt features its signature hunched, forward-leaning posture with powerful forelimbs, a broad muzzle parted in a wide grin of serrated teeth, and a coarse mane of matted fur running from the nape down to its mid-back. The figure arrives in its natural grey resin finish — prime and paint to your own colour scheme. All support marks have been carefully removed. Every figure is inspected before dispatch — any miniature that does not meet our standard is remade, not shipped.
Detail and quality
The fur texture across the Zimwi's shoulders and haunches is rendered in tight, overlapping clumps — ideal for heavy drybrushing — while the mane resolves into individual matted tufts that catch light beautifully at different angles. The face rewards close attention: deep-set orbital cavities frame eyes that sit just slightly too far apart, and the gum line is sculpted with enough definition to pick out individual teeth with a fine brush. The hide along the flanks transitions from thick fur into something closer to taut, almost hairless skin over the ribcage, giving painters two distinct textures to work across in a single figure. The claws on each forefoot are individually sculpted and slightly splayed, as though the creature has just planted its weight before lunging.

Compatibility
Compatible with Dungeons & Dragons 5e, Pathfinder 1e & 2e, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Age of Sigmar, Frostgrave, and any system using 28–35mm scale figures. The Zimwi is a perfect fit for wilderness ambush encounters, cursed village adventures, or as a named predator haunting a stretch of savannah or dense jungle — equally at home in a homebrew African-inspired setting or dropped into any dark-forest hex crawl as an apex threat. Base: 50mm round base.
Painting tips
Prime black and basecoat the fur with Vallejo Beasty Brown or Citadel Rhinox Hide, then work up through Citadel Gorthor Brown to a drybrush highlight of Citadel Karak Stone across the mane and shoulder ridges — the clumped fur texture will grab every pass of the brush cleanly. Wash the entire body with Citadel Agrax Earthshade, letting it pool in the ribcage recesses to sell that gaunt, hollow-flanked silhouette. The near-hairless skin patches on the flanks respond well to a thin glaze of Citadel Druchii Violet mixed into the base tone, giving a bruised, unhealthy undertone that reads as deeply unsettling on the table. Paint the teeth off-white with Vallejo Ivory, then apply a thin wash of Citadel Seraphim Sepia at the gumline and let it creep downward — the result looks genuinely organic. For the eyes, a single dot of Citadel Yriel Yellow over a black basecoat, finished with a tiny gloss varnish spot, gives that predator gleam that draws the eye from across the table.
Care
Resin miniatures are more brittle than plastic — handle with care, particularly on thin parts such as the Zimwi's individual claw tips and the finer tufts of the mane. Store away from direct sunlight. Super glue bonds resin effectively if a part breaks.
Primed or unprimed?
This miniature is available in two options. Unprimed arrives in its natural grey resin finish — apply your own spray or brush-on primer before painting for maximum adhesion, which is the preferred approach of most experienced painters and gives you full control over primer colour and texture. Primed arrives pre-primed in a smooth flat grey, saving you a step and ready for base coats straight from the box. Both options are produced fresh to your order and ship from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia within 5–7 business days. Select your preference above.
Supplied unpainted. Images show the design and sculpt. Painted examples are for reference only.
