Volguloth emerges from the lightless depths of the Far Realm like a wound in reality — a writhing mass of chitinous plates, lashing tendrils, and a central maw ringed with rows of inward-curving teeth that glow with a sickly bioluminescent violet. Its multiple eyes — each independently mobile, some human in shape, others compound and insectile — give it an unsettling omniscience that makes players feel watched from the moment it enters initiative. A single encounter with Volguloth redefines the campaign: this is not a creature to be negotiated with, only survived.

This is a Huge creature, supplied on a 75mm round base — occupying a 3×3 square footprint on a standard battle grid, Volguloth commands the room the moment it hits the table. Scaled to 28mm heroic scale and fully compatible with Dungeons & Dragons 5e, Pathfinder 1e & 2e, and all major tabletop RPG systems.

What you receive

One professionally produced resin miniature, cleaned and ready for basing and painting. Volguloth features a dynamic splayed pose with tendrils mid-lash and the central body raised at an imposing angle, conveying both mass and terrible motion — the kind of miniature that makes the whole table go quiet when you place it down. The figure arrives in its natural grey resin finish — prime and paint to your own colour scheme. All support marks have been carefully removed. Every figure is inspected before dispatch — any miniature that does not meet our standard is remade, not shipped.

Detail and quality

The sculpt rewards close inspection: the overlapping chitinous plates across Volguloth's dorsal surface have distinct edge definition, giving painters clear panel lines to shade and highlight. Each of the seven major tendrils is individually textured — the upper appendages carry ridged armour-like plating while the lower feeding tendrils taper into smooth, fleshy tips that suggest terrible softness beneath the carapace. The central maw is deeply undercut with individual teeth sculpted at varying angles, and the bioluminescent nodes along the body's flanks are raised as distinct rounded pustules — perfect candidates for Object Source Lighting. The compound eyes on the left flank show faceted surface detail that catches the light beautifully even before any paint is applied.

Compatibility

Compatible with Dungeons & Dragons 5e, Pathfinder 1e & 2e, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Age of Sigmar, Frostgrave, and any system using 28–35mm scale figures. Volguloth is purpose-built for climactic dungeon encounters, planar incursion events, or as a Far Realm ambassador in campaigns featuring cosmic horror themes — equally at home as a final boss in an Underdark arc or a mid-campaign revelation that rewrites what the players thought they knew about the enemy. Base: 75mm round base.

Painting tips

Prime in black to preserve the depth of the panel lines, then basecoat the chitinous plates with Vallejo Dark Prussian Blue or Citadel Incubi Darkness — these deep teals set a cold, alien tone that reads immediately as otherworldly. Apply Citadel Nuln Oil heavily into all the recesses of the plating and let it pool in the maw for a wet, visceral look. Drybrush the plate edges with Vallejo Electric Blue or Citadel Baharroth Blue to make the carapace look hard and ancient. For the fleshy tendrils, basecoat in Citadel Rakarth Flesh, wash with Druchii Violet, then glaze the tips with thinned Citadel Volupus Pink to suggest bruised, living tissue. The bioluminescent nodes are ideal for OSL — paint them Citadel Hexos Palesun or a bright acid green, then feather a thin glaze of the same colour outward onto the surrounding carapace to simulate the glow casting across the body.

Care

Resin miniatures are more brittle than plastic — handle with care, particularly on thin parts such as the tapered tendril tips, the smaller feeding appendages around the maw, and any extended eye-stalks. Store away from direct sunlight. Super glue bonds resin effectively if a part breaks.

Primed or unprimed?

This miniature is available in two options. Unprimed arrives in its natural grey resin finish — apply your own spray or brush-on primer before painting for maximum adhesion, which is the preferred approach of most experienced painters and gives you full control over primer colour and texture. Primed arrives pre-primed in a smooth flat grey, saving you a step and ready for base coats straight from the box. Both options are produced fresh to your order and ship from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia within 5–7 business days. Select your preference above.

Supplied unpainted. Images show the design and sculpt. Painted examples are for reference only.

Materials & Print Quality

All inserts and accessories are printed in PETG filament — chosen specifically for workshop environments. PETG handles tool weight without cracking, resists workshop chemicals and oils, and holds tight tolerances so parts fit snugly first time.

Layer height and print settings are tuned per-product to maximise strength where it matters. Colours may vary slightly between batches due to filament manufacturing tolerances.
