crates-boxes-scatter-terrain-set
Crates & Boxes Scatter Terrain Set | Tabletop RPG and Wargame

Stack the Crates

No tabletop scene is complete without scatter terrain — the small props and environmental dressing that transform an empty mat into a believable place. The Crates & Boxes Scatter Terrain Set is one of the most universally useful terrain sets you can own: a collection of wooden crates and boxes in multiple sizes that suits almost any setting, scenario, and game system.

From harbour warehouses and market stalls to dungeon storerooms and battlefield supply depots, crates appear everywhere in fantasy and historical gaming environments. This set gives you the pieces to fill those scenes convincingly.

What's in the Set

The set includes multiple crates and boxes of varying sizes, from small individual boxes to large stackable crates. Each piece features realistic wood plank texture with cross-brace reinforcement on the sides — the classic adventuring-world cargo crate. Some crates come with lids, some without (open crates work well as improvised cover or looted containers).

The variety of sizes means you can create natural, layered stacks and piles rather than uniform rows. Stacked crates also make effective line-of-sight blockers and cover objects for tactical combat encounters.

Material & Finish

Printed in matte grey, the only finish available. The matte surface gives the wood texture a realistic, aged quality. Unpainted, the pieces work perfectly well on the table — the matte grey reads as weathered timber in most gaming conditions.

For painters, wooden crates are one of the most rewarding and fastest terrain pieces to paint. A brown basecoat, dark wash in the grain recesses, and a dry-brush of tan or bone produces convincing timber in minutes. Metal bands or nail heads can be picked out in silver for added detail.

Scale & Compatibility

Designed for 28mm scale tabletop gaming. Sized to look natural alongside standard 28mm miniatures — large enough to provide cover but not so large as to dominate the table.

Where to Use Them

Dungeon storerooms, prison cellars, and supply rooms

Tavern backs and merchant stalls

Harbour docks, warehouse districts, and cargo holds

Battlefield supply depots and baggage trains

Market squares and trading posts

Any encounter that needs improvised cover and environmental detail

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pieces are in the set?
The set includes multiple crates and boxes in different sizes.
